PSYCHOLOGICAL & NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT
Understanding Your Child’s Strengths and Challenges, and Making a Plan of Action
Our expert team of psychologists provides comprehensive assessments for children, teens, and young adults, offering insights into areas like learning, behavior, development, emotions, and social interactions. With these insights, we create personalized recommendations to reduce stress, build coping skills, identify necessary school accommodations and boost your child’s confidence and well-being.
What is a Psychological Assessment?
A psychological assessment helps us understand how your child thinks, feels, and behaves. We use a variety of tests to assess things like intellectual abilities, learning achievement, personality, and emotional health. We combine these results with information about your child’s life—like their development, health, and relationships at home and school—to create a full picture of their strengths and challenges. This allows us to provide answers to your concerns and identify or clarify diagnoses.
What is a Neuropsychological Assessment?
A neuropsychological assessment takes a closer look at certain areas of brain function, including attention, memory, problem-solving, language, and reasoning. It helps us dig deeper into how your child processes information and how these areas may be impacting their everyday life. The assessment can help in creating individualized plans that support your child’s academic and emotional growth.
Why Should My Child Be Assessed?
A thorough assessment is key to understanding your child’s unique needs, making a diagnosis, and planning the best way forward. An assessment can help in identifying issues early, which can be crucial for effective intervention. Our approach is:
- Personalized: Assessments are tailored to your child’s specific situation.
- Comprehensive: We take a holistic view, combining test results with personal history.
- Collaborative: We work closely with you to address your immediate concerns.
We focus on your child’s strengths and use them as a foundation to overcome challenges, providing a clear roadmap for their growth and success. The assessment provides detailed insights into the child’s unique needs, helping tailor educational and behavioral strategies.

How long does a psychological or neuropsychological assessment take?
A full assessment will be completed over four to six two-hour sessions, including an initial appointment with parents or caregivers, in-person testing with the child, and a meeting to review results and make a plan.
Most comprehensive psychological assessments include approximately 20 hours of service – 10 hours of test administration with your child and 10 hours of scoring, interpreting, report writing, and feedback. Additional support with implementing recommendations can be offered as well.
We may offer appointments on weekends and flexible scheduling in order to accommodate each family’s school and personal schedules.
Superbills can be provided for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
What will my child be doing during testing sessions?
Assessment tasks can include drawings, storytelling, solving puzzles, answering questions, or completing math problems. Some may be fun or easy for your child while others may be challenging.
What happens after my child’s assessment?
After the assessment, we keep in contact to support families as they put our recommendations into action. We can join you during school team individualized educational program (IEP) planning meetings to advocate on behalf of your child’s needs. Our team includes specialists in anxiety, behavioral challenges, and child and adolescent psychiatry, who are here to provide further services and treatment when needed.
